This is a food related post but it’s very important. Most foods in our country contain soy or corn. Most of that soy and corn is genetically modified by Monsanto. They modify the foods to make them strong enough to withstand the strongest pesticides- conveniently also produced by Monsanto.
The new modified foods are not good for your body and the chemicals they spray them with are poisoning the farmers and the water table. These crops also take over any “weaker” non modified farm crop they are exposed it, by for example, the WIND blows a single modified seed into another farmer’s field miles away. The farmer of the contaminated field now owes Monsanto money.
This is only the TIP of the iceberg. They are also the people who inject cow’s with mutated e-coli so that they produce massive quanities of milk. And recently patented PIG GENES. So if you are a pig farmer in Guatamala, Monsanto actually own your pig if that pig has the same genes. Farmers are literally bankrupted by this company by the thousands. Monsanto is changing the world’s food, health and socioeconomic climate for the worse.
Trust me when I say that this company is so big and influential (Obama’s food and drug Czar is the revolving door president of Monsanto) that they can only be compared to the death star.
And yes, that soy is in a lot of beauty products too.
Look for non-gmo products.

Kiss My Face
Great brand… mostly. They do not test on animals or use animal byproducts however some of their products do contain parabens. Notably several of the bath shower gels that are otherwise amazing.
Actually Natural rating: ** 1/2

Kiehls
Such a shame. Kiehl’s used to not test on animals but ever since loreal purchased them… Don’t be fooled.
Actually Natural rating: no stars

Boscia
Boscia products (available at Sephora among other places) are paraben free, cruelty free and incredibly effective! Also they smell very subtly of roses. Who could resist?

Nubian Heritage
I don’t care what your actual heritage is, Nubian Heritage is an incredible line of products for everyone! They are paraben free, cruelty free and the richest products I’ve found! Plus each product has a distinctive rich and delicious aroma.
As you probably know, a lot of natural beauty products come from places where farmers are not paid properly for their crops. That’s why it’s important to buy fair trade products. This company however, goes far beyond that:
The company purchases ingredients directly from women cooperatives and indigenous farmers in Africa, paying above market prices to help improve the standard of living for those suppliers. They are working closely with local and international organizations, including ECOSERVE and AFRICARE, to protect the integrity of ingredients and improve production processes to ensure sustainable harvests. Partnering with organizations such as The Liberian Education Fund and Todee Mission, the company is working to build schools and provide access to education for impoverished girls in Africa, many of who are suppliers of Shea Butter, Cocoa Butter and other natural ingredients.

Parabens are a class of chemicals widely used as preservatives in the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries. Parabens are effective preservatives in many types of formulas. These compounds, and their salts, are used primarily for their bactericidal and fungicidalproperties. They can be found in shampoos, commercial moisturizers, shaving gels, personal lubricants, topical/parenteral pharmaceuticals, spray tanning solution, makeup[1], and toothpaste. They are also used as food additives.
Their efficacy as preservatives, in combination with their low cost, the long history of their use, and the inefficacy of natural alternatives likegrapefruit seed extract (GSE),[2] probably explains why parabens are so commonplace. They are becoming increasingly controversial, however, because they have been found in extremely low concentrations in breast cancer tumors (an average of 20 nanograms/g of tissue).[3] Parabens have also displayed the ability to weakly mimic estrogen (a hormone known to play a role in the development of breast cancer).[3] No causal link between parabens and cancer has been established, however.[4]
Actually Natural rating: zero! Do not use products with parabens!
